Sally (Lingjun) Gao
Sally joined the IT & software team at Mathys & Squire after worked as an in-house patent specialist in a global top automotive supplier. Her PhD focused on real-time signal/image processing, object detection, machine learning and instrumentation system design. Sally is also a qualified Chinese patent attorney.

Expertise
Sally spent four years working as an algorithm engineer and in-house patent specialist in a global top automotive supplier developing Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. As a developer, Sally gained experience in the development of computer vision algorithms for commercial applications. As an in-house patent specialist, her responsibilities included organising invention harvesting meetings, creating and managing patent processes and consulting in regular in-house intellectual property meetings for decision making.
Sally is also a Mandarin native speaker and has worked as a trainee patent attorney in a Chinese IP law firm where she practised Chinese intellectual property law.
Academic
Sally holds a master’s degree in Signal and Information Processing from Xidian University and a PhD in Electronic Engineering from University of Kent (funded by EPSRC), with specialisation in real-time signal/image processing, object detection, machine learning and instrumentation system design. In 2011 she was awarded Graduate Student Best Paper Prize and Student Travel Grant in IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference. During her studies and years in industry, she published a number of papers and was named as inventor on a number of patents.
In addition, she holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Bournemouth and is a qualified Chinese Patent Attorney.
