Philippa joined Mathys & Squire in 2001, qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2005, and became a partner of the firm in 2010. She holds a first class master’s degree in Natural Sciences and specialises in the fields of molecular biology, biopharma, and biotechnology.

Expertise

Philippa’s practice areas include the drafting, prosecution, and management of global patent families, and she is experienced in the conduct of opposition and appeal hearings before the EPO. Philippa has particular experience of inventions relating to vaccines, antibodies and immunology, cytokine/ receptor and antibody-based therapeutics, nucleic acid-based diagnostics and array technologies, modified and thermostable enzymes, stem cell and regenerative technologies, biomarkers for screening and diagnosis, therapeutic uses and delivery systems, and ex-vivo organ preservation and repair.

She acts for a diverse range of clients, including Public Health England, New England Biolabs, Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Novo Nordisk AS, Molecular Templates, Inc., Novabone Products, LLC, and Warwick University.

Academic

Philippa studied at Cambridge University, obtaining a first class master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Zoology), and also holds a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the University of London.

Membership & Organisations

Philippa is a member of CIPA and EPI, and serves as a lecturer for the CIPA Foundation Examinations.
